Fiery Finish for Dragons Soccer
Posted on 10/20/2023
Dice Boys Soccer concluded its Fall 2023 season with a fiery finish. After battling for several months in WPIAL 4A league play, the toughest section in the western half of Pennsylvania, Allderdice would fight down the stretch to win 4 of their last 5 games in dominant fashion. The Dragons' firepower and teamwork was on full display in their final matchup of the season vs. non-section city opponent Brashear for Senior Night. With a big turnout from the fans at Cupples Stadium and a beautiful evening of soccer on deck, the boys rose to the occasion and produced one last performance to remember. Brashear provided tough resistance early, as the Dragons piled on pressure looking for a goal to break the deadlock. After nearly half an hour of action, the floodgates would open. Dice's top scorer on the season, Junior Forward Peter Myrianthopoulos, turned in another shooting clinic with a flurry of goals to set the tone. He netted a hat-trick in a manner of minutes, ending the night with 4 goals and an assist to boost his overall tally to 16 goals and 3 assists, a haul that has earned Peter WPIAL All-Section All-Star Nomination. The final result was a truly emphatic 13-0 victory highlighting the quality throughout the squad. Our senior class went out on a high, with goals from captain Alex Lieberman, Tatum Miller and Porter Waldrup, as well as an assist from Jose Jimenez. Not to be outdone, the underclassmen chipped in with a plethora of offense, highlighted by Ethan Voight-Cherna converting 2 goals and 2 assists, Niv Friedman and Jakob Sirlin adding a goal an assist, and freshman Luca Fuerte grabbing 2 more assists in his fledgling career. While the season draws to a close, Coach Thyberg and the boys have a chance to reflect on the growth, accomplishments and memories shared over the last 3 months as a team, and the last 4 years for the seniors. Thanks to the players, parents, volunteers, school administration, coaching staff and everyone who helped make this season possible. We appreciate it, and look forward to the next chapter!
Dragons Breathing Fire Down the Stretch
Posted on 10/13/2023
The Dragons Boys Soccer squad is firing towards the season's finish line! After a huge 11-0 win Vs. Hempfield the previous week, Dice went on the road Tuesday this week to Canon Mac for the Big Mac's senior night showcase. Facing a raucous crowd and strong opposition, the boys battled hard, but early defensive lapses led to a 4-1 defeat. Senior midfielder Tatum Miller scored an absolute rocket from long range as consolation on the night, and strong contender for goal of the season.
Thursday the team was back in action, taking on WPIAL rival Mt. Lebanon at home. Having delved deep into film study and drilling hard at practice all week, the boys produced their best performance of the season, upsetting the Blue Devils in a brilliant 3-0 victory. Everyone rose to the occasion, playing as a unit with intensity and focus. Junior goalkeeper Ozan Matviev and his defense secured the clean-sheet shutout, while the offense came alive with a display of firepower. Junior midfielder Aidan Thomas returned from a lengthy injury to provide a goal and an assist, and his midfield teammates Jacek Piekut and Ethan Voight-Cherna chipped in with a goal apiece as Dice rolled to a massive upset win.
Riding the buzz from that win, Coach Thyberg and the squad were ready for a quick turnaround in Friday's contest against 4A section opponent Baldwin High School, brimming with a healthy confidence. That swagger was on full display, as the Dragons would score in the very first minute of the game and never look back in an explosive 7-1 rout. Jacek Piekut starred with a 3 goal outing and an assist on top of his hattrick, while Aidan Thomas added to his tally with 2 goals and 2 assists and a bevy of silky skill moves to pace the midfield.
Our final game of the season is next Tuesday Oct. 17th at Cupples Stadium on the Southside vs. city rival Brashear at 5pm. It will be our boys' senior night celebration, and a double header in which the Dice girls soccer team will play immediately following our match around 7pm.
Special shoutouts to our seniors: Alex Lieberman - Defender, Jose Jimenez - Defender, Tatum Miller - Midfielder, Kalu Kramer - Midfielder, Grady Quinlan - Midfielder, Porter Waldrup - Midfielder, and Charlie Kohut-Kegarise - Forward. You will be remembered fondly and you are always a part of the Dragons Soccer Family.
Senior Night should be a great time to celebrate Allderdice Soccer and the accomplishments of our athletes this season. Please come out to support the teams and enjoy the show!

Boys Soccer Recap - Big Win VS Hempfield!
Posted on 10/02/2023
The Allderdice Boys Soccer Team had another busy week, heading down to Cupples Stadium on the southside for a home match up with Peters Township. It was a difficult game and the visitors left with the win in the end. The tides would turn on Thursday when the Dragons went out on the road to Hempfield. Only one minute into the game, junior forward Peter Myrianthopolous would score the first of his three goals on the night. His hat-trick brings Peter's team leading tally up to 7 goals on the season, while Pierre Cozby and Ethan Voight-Cherna chipped in with a pair of assists each. Junior forward Hari Arunachalam and freshman Luca Fuerte would add their names to the scoresheet as the boys went on to defeat Hempfield 5-0. Junior keeper Asher Shwartz kept the clean sheet shutout in the road victory. With some fresh confidence after the win and a spirited pep rally at school in which the boys were recognized, the team heads into next week ready to take on Baldwin at home at Cupples stadium at 5pm Tuesday and then play host to Upper St. Clair Thursday at the Schenley Oval after school at 3pm. We look forward to playing in front of our supporters as the team moves through the back half of the season. Also make sure to circle Tuesday October 17th on your calendars as the boys and girls teams will be playing their senior night double headers at Cupples stadium 5pm and 7pm!
Boys Soccer Weekly Recap
Updated on 09/28/2023
Allderdice Boys Soccer was sidelined on Tuesday due to the extreme heat this past week. Our home game against Hempfield at Cupples was postponed, and will be rescheduled for next Saturday morning. In spite of the temperatures, the team stayed hot on Thursday of this week, going on the road to Balwin where the Dragons dominated in a physical 4-1 win. This was the first win of the young season for the boys, taking their record up to 1-2 in section play. Junior striker Peter Myrianthopolous lead the line with 2 goals (4 on the season) and posed constant threat up front, while Junior Captain Jacek Piekut paced the midfield and chipped in with an impressive 3 assists on the night. Junior Center Back Nadav Gil added a header for his first career goal, and standout freshman Luca Fuerte slotted an excellent solo run and score to ice the game late in the second half. Coach Thyberg is very pleased with the team's first win, and the boys will look to carry the momentum forward into next week with two difficult matchups against section rivals Upper St. Clair away on Tuesday night and Canon Mac home at Schenley Oval at 3pm on Thursday right after school. We'd love to see some fans in the stands for both, so feel free to come out and support your Dragons!
Dice Boys Soccer Road Trip
Posted on 09/22/2023
The Allderdice Boys Soccer Team traveled extensively this past week, visiting Mt. Lebanon for a clash in the Section 4A south. A slow start cost the Dragons the game, resulting in a 0-2 loss to the Blue Devils. Thursday the boys went east to Norwin, one of the top WPIAL teams this season. Coach Thyberg implemented a few formation changes and the boys focused hard on the game-plan in front of them. With an intense atmosphere for Norwin's senior night on their home turf, the game opened as a tight contest. Thanks to discipline and cohesion, the Dragons held off the Knights for the first half hour, turning in an inspired performance and countering to score the first goal of the match and go up 1-0 early on. Junior Hari Arunachalam scored his first varsity goal on a beautiful assist by Pierre Cozby. Unfortunately, the tides would turn shortly after as Norwin turned up the pressure and managed to scrape a few goals back. In the end it would finish as a 1-5 loss for Allderdice, but the scoreline was not reflective of how close the play was for much of the game. The team is learning and looking to make progress as the second half of the season gets underway. Our upcoming week will feature a big home game vs. highly ranked Peters Township at Cupples Stadium Tuesday at 7pm, as well as an away game at Hempfield at 630pm on Thursday. We love the fan support, especially at Cupples home games, so please come out to cheer on the boys soccer team whenever possible. Schedule available at AllderdiceDragons.com.
